UTICA - Delwin and Tamara Chapman, both age 49, passed away in Clark County , Nev., on Dec. 7, 2011. Delwin was born on Sept. 9, 1962, in Ransom, Kan., the son of Leland and Sandra Mendenhall Chapman. Tamara was born on Sept. 3, 1962, in Ransom, Kan., the daughter of Dwaine and Virginia Mitten Basinger.

They were united in marriage on Dec. 6, 1986, in Utica, Kan. Delwin owned his own building contractor business. He was a deacon and the building and property chairman at First Christian Church in Utica, a member of the Utica City Council, a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a member of the National Rifle Association. Tamara was a cosmetologist. She was a deaconess and member of First Christian Church in Utica, a member of the church's Christian Women's Fellowship and a member of the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology.

They are survived by daughters and grandchildren, Kendra Solze (Derek) with Mallory and Logan Solze, Pratt, Melanie Stoecklein (Eric) with Aubrie and Khloe Stoecklein, Wichita, Jennifer Chapman with Tracer and Brecken Chapman, Dighton, and Jacklyn Walker (Adam), Utica. Delwin is survived by his parents; brother, Jack Chapman (Susan), Dighton; and sister, Melissa Jacobs (Jake), Middlebury, Indiana. Tamara is survived by her parents; brother, Roger Basinger (Donna), Hutchinson; and sister, Teresa Shipp (Dennis), Bertrand, Neb. They are also survived by six nephews and six nieces and their beloved dogs, Sasha J, Tinkabell, Sophia Maria and Jack. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Lena Chapman and Dale and Anna Mendenhall. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Orie and Lida Basinger and Earl and Opal Mitten.

Funeral service will be Saturday Dec. 17, 2011, 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, Utica. Friends may sign the guest book at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. when the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial in Utica Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Delwin and Tamara Chapman Memorial Fund or Utica First Christian Church.
