Eugene J. Bashour, 82, of New Kensington, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, in UPMC Presbyterian. He was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Sophie Neasi Bashour. He had lived in the area all his life. Eugene had worked for the Pittsburgh city schools as a vocational instructor for 30 years before retiring in 1991. He had received his BS and master's degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Eugene had served in the Army as a sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church in New Kensington and also a member of The Bazbina Society of the church. He was also active in the building committee of the church. He enjoyed working on cars. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Jackie) Bashour, of Wilsonville, Ala., and Thomas Bashour, of New Kensington; two daughters, Leila Bashour, of Lower Burrell, and Leslie (Paul) Blanchard, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Elias and Hannah Bashour; and brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Bashour, of Stuart, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Effie (Ward) Bashour, in 1986; and sisters, Esther Corbin, Janet Minor and Karen Gianella. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the JOHN F. KRUPA FUNERAL HOME INC., 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington, 724-337-7504, Robert Jarosinski, supervisor. Trisagion prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by services at 10 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church, New Kensington, by the Rev. Meletios Zafaran officiating. Trisagion service will also be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Contributions to be made to St. George Church Food Bank, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068.
