Mrs. Earl Bennett
Mrs. Dorothy S. Bennett, aged 59, of Cooperstown, died Wednesday, January 29, in the mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. She had been in failing health since August.
Mrs. Bennett was born October 16, 1904, in Oneonta, the duaghter of John H. and Emma (Warner) Stranahan. She was a graduate of Cherry Valley Central School and the Albany Hospital School of Nursing. She was married to Earl J. Bennett in Oneonta. He died in 1938.
Mrs. Bennett had been a member of the nursing staff at Douglas College, Rutgers University at New Brunswick, N.J. She had also served as director of Nurses at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. For the past six years, she had been superintendent at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown; the New York State Historical Association and The Rebekah Lodge of Cherry Valley.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Frederick J. Blumenstock of Merchantville, N.J.; one brother, Jason Stranahan of Manhassett, L.I., and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Armand Sieper of Amherst.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1 in St. Agnes Chapel in Cooperstown, with the Rev. George F. French, rector of Christ Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery in the spring.
