Emil Schilmoeller, 91, of Remsen, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Emil Schilmoeller was born Jan. 23, 1914, at rural Granville, Iowa, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Meis) Schilmoeller. Emil was the 10th of 11 children and was raised on a farm south of Granville. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville. On Jan. 23, 1940, he married Elizabeth Staab at Remsen. They farmed near Granville until 1944, when they moved to a farm northeast of Remsen, where they continued to farm until 1979 when they retired on the farm. In 1982 they moved into Remsen. Elizabeth died July 14, 2003.

On March 1, 2005, Emil moved to Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa; and on Dec. 7, 2005, to Happy Siesta.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Farm Bureau. In addition to farming, he also enjoyed fishing and bowling, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Mike Kaschmitter of Spencer and Charlene and Don Bunch of Lenore, Idaho; four sons and their wives, Ronald and Evelyn of Remsen, Gary and Kathy of Orono, Maine, Leon and Jan of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Bob and Ruth of Burnsville, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Julius, Alban, Ray, Alphonse; and six sisters, Elizabeth Degen, Henrietta Recker, Mathilda Alesch, Alvina Augustine, Agnes Bunt, and Josephine Gentrup.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. December 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson and Msgr. Roger Augustine officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. On December 21 there was a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus, all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casket bearers were Chris and Jim Kaschmitter; Adam, Bill, Brian, Dan, and Julie Schilmoeller; and Andy Schmidt.
