While her husband Neal was away in the service during W.W. II, Dorothy returned to live with her mother who was in Janesville, Wisconsin at the time. It was here that her first son was born. After the war the family settled in Minneapolis where Dorothy was a homemaker raising four children. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She had a club for children called the 'Good News Club' from 1955 to 1957.
