Cherryville – Mrs. Helen Abernethy Hallman, 87, of S. Elm Street, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.

Mrs. Hallman was born in Lincoln County on February 21, 1924 to the late Sam Abernethy and Bertie Leonhardt Abernethy. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville and was employed at the Carlton Mill for over 40 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Hallman; son, John Abernethy; two sisters, Margaret Gilbert and Ruby Abernethy; and two baby brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Diana H. White and husband Dr. Thomas R. White of Cherryville; three grandchildren, Whitney White of Cherryville, Daniel White of Greenville, NC and Susie Furr and husband, Mark of Denver; a great-grandson, Logan Furr; and four sisters, Cora Smart of Gastonia, Frances Womack of Cherryville, Louise Farnsworth of Kings Mountain and Wanda Hammer of Lincolnton. Mrs. Hallman is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville, 107 W. Academy Street, Cherryville or to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
