Mrs. E. E. Sherman Dies February 15
The death of Mrs. E. E. Sherman of Keosauqua is deeply grieved by her many associates throughout the county, especially those who were associated with her in Red Cross work.
Mrs. Sherman was a woman who gave unselfishly of her time and effort for the benefit of humanity.
Josephine Ballou Sherman was born Dec. 22, 1864, and passed away at 4 a.m. Feb. 15, 1940, at the age of 75 years 1 month and 22 days.
She was married to Elmer Emmett Sherman Sept. 2, 1886, at Macomb, Ill. There were five children born to this union. One child died in infancy. Those remaining are: Evangeline Sherman, nurse of Sheridan, Wyoming, Dorsey E. of Des Moines, Esther Elliott of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ruth Madden Knopp of Keosauqua.
Mrs. Sherman became a member of the Christian church at the age of 16, beginning at that time a long career of usefulness and was a Bible school teacher for many years. She was educated at Illinois Normal school and taught school five years in the public schools of McDonough county. She has written many educational articles and stories.
She served three 2 year terms as treasurer of State Parent-Teacher Association and was a member of the legislative committee which was instrumental in establishing the Child Welfare Research Station at the State University at Iowa City.
