A Sudden Death

The life work of a good woman ended on Wednesday evening last when Mrs. Henry Stickle suddenly expired at the Hotel Stickle in this village, to the unspeakable grief of her stricken husband and sorrowing children.

Mrs. Stickle had been ailing for a short time, but kept about her duties as usual. She had been under medical treatment for about a fortnight, but her family and friends had not suspected anything of serious character until the stroke came. She had not taken to her bed but was seized with pain in the chest while sitting in a chair, and expired in the arms of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. H. Stickle. Her physician had been summoned, but only arrived a few minutes before the end came.

No woman could have been removed from Weedsport, who will be more widely mourned and missed. She was possessed of many virtues, and her kindly disposition, self-sacrificing labors, tact, and good judgment, made her the friend and advisor of many outside her own household. Her true heart always beat in sympathy with human suffering, and she was like a mother to many whose tears now mingle with those of her devoted husband and loving children. To one near and dear to the writer hereof, who has gone before, Mrs. Stickle was even an intimate friend, and her loss comes to us as a personal sorrow, while out heart goes out in sympathy for him who has lost the sharer of his joys and sorrows.

The deceased was in the 67th year of her age. She leaves a husband, our townsman Henry Stickle, and three sons, William H., Frank B., and Fred K. Stickle. She has four surviving brothers and four sisters, viz: Joshua W. Ketchum and Andrew J. Ketchum of this town, David Ketchum of Charles City, Iowa, H. P. Ketchum of Burr Oak, Michigan; Mrs. Eliza Wilber of Brutus, Mrs. Lydia A, Town of Denver, Mrs. L. Sickler of Schenectady, and Mrs. George Mason of Owasco.

The funeral will occur today at 3PM.
