Longtime Sutherlin, Oregon resident Robert (Bob) Harry Lange, age 94, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Callahan Court in Roseburg, OR. He was born January 1, 1917 at the homestead of his parents Charles Elmer and Chloe Dell Gitchell Lange near Columbus, Montana.

In March 1937, Robert Harry Lange and Thelma Jane Risdon were united in marriage. They were joined in 1938 by son, Wayne Douglas Lange and then by daughter Myrna Faye Lange in 1939. Thelma Jane preceded Bob in death in 1939.

Bob served in the 5th US Army Air Corps in the Philippines and Australia [during WWII] until he was discharged October 31, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.

Prior to joining the military, Bob had met Fern Elizabeth Boughton in Bend, OR. After the war they were united in marriage December 9, 1945 and set up their home in Bend, Deschutes Co., OR. The Langes, with son Wayne and daughter Myrna, were joined in 1947 by son Gordon Ellis. Beverly June Lange came into their lives for a short time in 1950. The family welcomed daughter Martha Jeanette in 1951. Daughter, Esther Louise joined her parents and siblings in 1955. Then daughter, Baby Girl was born in 1958.

For many years Bob was an active worker in Sunday school ministries, rescue missions and a member of New Hope Fellowship, Sutherlin, OR. He was a longtime member of the International Woodworkers of America, Local 2949 of Roseburg, OR and an active member of the Republican Party.

Bob, Fern and family later moved to Riddle, OR where he resided until his retirement in 1978 at which time he relocated to Sutherlin, OR and later, due to health issues to Callahan Court in Roseburg, OR where he passed away December 7, 2011.

Bob was preceded in death by parents, Charles E. and Chloe D. Lange, brothers Gilmer A. Lange, Willis D. Lange and Louis E. Lange, sisters Thelma I. Waggener and Ruth E. Lovelace, by his wife Thelma Jane Lange, by his wife Fern Elizabeth Lange, son Wayne D. Lange, daughters Beverly J. Lange and Baby Girl Lange, as well as by several grandsons and granddaughters.

He is survived by daughter Myrna F. Menges and husband Billy of New Mexico, son Gordon E. Lange and wife Bonnie of Colorado, daughter Martha J. Aller and husband Nathan of Oregon, daughter Esther L. Kenney and husband Phil of New Mexico and by numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren residing in Alaska, Arizona, California, Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma, Australia and Mexico.
