December 20, 1951

We are all alone today, just we 2, Luther and Rophila. We were married 63 years today on December 20, 1888 at the Hawkins Hotel in Hallettsville, Lavaca Co. Tex. Was married by Judge Hester. Mr. John Berthold and Miss Mickie Houchin went with us and stood up with us. Had several to see us married, Mrs. Hawkins, Johnny Hawkins, Ernest Strunk, Mr. Poland. They were the ones we (?).

Mrs. Hawkins prepared a lovely dinner for us. We 4 went over on the train to Hallettsville at 11 am. Left Hallettsville at 2. The railroad had not been built long. It rained so much that winter the roadbed was new and had not settled. The train was heavy and had to stop often and the men would get out with their shovels and clean off the mud so the train could travel. We all had a lovely day, all went to the little city of Sublime. There we left our horses tied to trees. There we caught the train for Hallettsville. We all had good horses and saddles, that is all the way we had to go.

I am wondering what the people would do if they had to get back to those days. Mabe they would all be better off. We had no radioes, no phones, no electrisity, no cars, no air planes, no gass, had to cook on wood stoves. Had no washing machines, had to rub on the washboard. When I was a child we cooked on the fireplace before we had cook stoves, but we were all happy.

On the 2 of Dec 1889, a little boy came to our house to make his home with us. We named him Forrest Elmer on the 3 of Dec 1889. Mr. John Berthold and Miss Mickie Houchin was married. Now all our kin and friends are in their graves. Oh how I miss them, but I have my children and have lots of good friends that I love. We are old now but we know we do not have long to stay on this Earth.

I thank God we are able to carry on our daily work, also thank him for our food and a house to live in and a good bed to rest on at night, clothes to keep us warm. Good health we have enjoyed.

We are now waiting for God to call us home. There we will meet all our loved ones and friends that have gone on. What a happy meeting that will be, when we all get to Heaven. There will be no parting. There we will all be together forever and ever in God's Heaven.
