John P Hoffman, 73, of Columbia, died at 3:40 yesterday morning at the Columbia Hospital after an illness of several months. He was born in Orangeburg county and for the past 21 years had resided in Columbia where he was a charter member of the Earlewood Baptist church. Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Mary Viola Gleaton of Orangeburg county; three daughters, Mrs. D. F. McClure, Mrs. C. E. Turbeville and Mr.s F. B. Metts, all of Columbia; three sons, Hampton J. Hoffman, John P. Hoffman Jr., and Harvey S. Hoffman, all of Columbia; two brothers, C. H. Hoffman of Columbia and Andrew Hoffman of Orangeburg county, and 23 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Earlewood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. A. L. Willis, assisted by the Rev. Paul Bolen. Interment will be in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery near Neeses. Active pallbearers will be Henry Smith, W. P. Quattlebaum, F. L. Hughes, Robert Dukes, Frank Williams and D. M. Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and members of the Earlewood Baptist Church Brotherhood.
