ALEXIS - Gwendolyn M. McCreight, 87, Alexis, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Alexis, the daughter of Ward and Margarite (Mackin) McKelvie. She was raised and educated in Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1942.
Gwendolyn married Clarus Richard McCreight on July 25, 1943, in Spokane, Wash. He survives.
She was an agricultural domestic engineer and along with her husband farmed in Warren and Mercer counties for more than 50 years. She enjoyed her family, needlework and cooking.
She was of Presbyterian faith, a member of American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Chapter "G" P.E.O. for more than 50 years.
Her family includes her husband, Clarus of Alexis; one son, Robert (Dixie) McCreight of Alexis; three granddaughters, Ann McCreight of Galesburg, and Amy (Jeff) Frieden and Sara (Scott) Strum, both of Brimfield; six great-grandchildren, Kayla Winkler, Cole Reiling, Kelsey Winkler, Callie Reiling, Grant Rea and Jenna Frieden; and one brother, Don (Doris) McKelvie of Alexis; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jack Mc-Kelvie.
Cremation has been accorded. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Alexis Cemetery Association.
