Georgia L. Aldridge, 103, of Martinsville passed from this life on Saturday, December 3, 2011 surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on August 24, 1908 in Lancaster, Kentucky. Georgia was one of eight children, all of whom predeceased her, born to the late Joshua and Margarett (Barnes) Barker.

On June 4, 1927 she married John W. Aldridge and he preceded her in death on their 60th wedding anniversary, June 4, 1987. Her younger years were spent in Kentucky before moving to Indianapolis, where she spent many of the following years before moving her family to Martinsville in the 1960's.

During World War II, Georgia was a factory worker. After the war, she began working in sales at L.S. Ayres and Blocks Department Stores in Indianapolis, though her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She treasured time spent with her family and simply being at home. She had served the Lord faithfully since 1969 as a non-denominational Christian.

She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends including her daughter, Vera F. Wade of Martinsville; son and daughter-in-law, Joe G. and Phyllis Aldridge of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Mark Wade; four brothers, Jimmy, Elijah, Curtis & Raymond Barker; and three sisters, Nora LeMay, Hallie Naylor & Allie Barker.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, December 6th from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 7th from 10-11:00 a.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. Nathan Pedigo and Ray Miller will co-officiate a Celebration of Life Service on Wed., December 7th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
