Our father, Arthur Franklin (Buddy) Daniel, died peacefully at home on December 7, 2011. He was born on November 12, 1927 to Mary Ethel and Arthur Franklin Daniel in Austwell, Texas.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1948 achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Dad and our mom, Erma Dean Rust Daniel, were married on November 6, 1954 after meeting on a blind date. They were married over 50 years before her death.
Our Dad was one of the first 25 hourly employees hired by the Union Carbide Seadrift Plant. He worked in instrumentation and retired after more than 30 years. He worked at the plant in order to raise 8 kids, but always worked on his "exit" plan. He farmed, ranched, ran a gas station and a hotel. Dad built a shrimp boat in the back yard and put all the kids to work as deck hands. After retirement, he became an owner of Seadrift Machine Works.
Dad had the talent of being able to argue any position. Whatever stirred you up the most was his point of view. He was known to his close friends as Deformed Bird (one big left wing). Dad had an incredible work ethic. He only took vacation to catch up on things around the house and, in his opinion; there was nothing worse than a lazy kid. He was a notorious practical joker and had a sense of humor that we only gained appreciation for as adults. Like when we were little and he would offer to "drive by Dairy Queen", but never actually stopped.
In addition to his parents and our mother, Dad was preceded in death by an infant sister and his son James (Scooter) Daniel.
Dad is survived by a brother, Anthony Daniel and a sister, Willie Epps. He is also survived by us kids Mark (Anne) Daniel, James's wife Jane, Grace Benedick and her sweetie Mark Dieringer, John (Marylin) Daniel, Jackie (Larry) Pasztor, Kitty Godrey, Mike (Rene) Daniel, Pat (Mark) Daigle, and his faithful companion Dawg. We blessed Dad with 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Dad, we hope you find the answer to all life's mysteries that you have pondered over the years. What happened to the Mayans? Who really shot Kennedy? Are we alone in the universe? And who the heck took the wire cutters?
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services with Military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Joint Honor Guard will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Tivoli Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Benedick, Colt Daniel, Kyle Daniel, Colby Daniel, Michael Trammell, Blake Walpole and Clay Daigle.
