He was a community leader. He served on the Nelson County ASC Committee and the Nelson County Democratic Executive Committee. He and his family lived on Paschal Ballard Lane, off Balltown Road, in southern Nelson County, near Greenbriar.
He farmed and operated a sawmill and pallet business. He supplied some of the lumber for Thomas Merton's hermitage at the Abbey of Gethsemani.
He truly enjoyed life. Mary Frances (Osborne) Puckett,one of his nieces-by-marriage, recently remarked at a family funeral that, "Uncle Paschal was really an overgrown kid; he certainly knew how to entertain us!"
