Cooke, David Miller--M.D. David Miller Cooke, M.D. died peacefully during the evening of December 4th 2011 in the company of his loving fiancé Judy Sledge and his children Colin and Briony. Doctor Cooke died in his Arlington, Texas home shortly after receiving the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church following a brave and determined battle against cancer.

David was born on October 28th 1943, the son of James Michael Cooke and Dorathe Mae Cooke (nee Whalen) in Chicago, Illinois. His paternal grandparents, Thomas and Bessie Cooke, were natives of Tubbercurry, County Sligo, Ireland making Doctor Cooke the first M.D. in this American family and one of its very first university graduates. Doctor Cooke received his medical degree from Loyola Univerity's Stritch School of Medicine and continued his studies through out his life at several institutions, most recently Georgetown University. His medical career commenced with an internship at Baylor University Medical Center, followed by private practice in Denton, Texas. David served honorably for four years in the U.S. Army in Germany and Italy, achieving the rank of major. Following his military service, Doctor Cooke pursued a career as a senior medical advisor for an American oil company in East Kalimantan and Jakarta, Indonesia for seven years and then practiced emergency medicine in Fort Worth, Texas and the Dallas Veterans Hospital, saving the lives of count-less others.

He is survived by Judy, Colin and Briony, Barbara Conuel, and his sisters Marybeth Blake and Katherine Zingaro and his brothers James, Michael and Jerome Cooke and is preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer. A viewing is scheduled for the evening of Thursday December 8th in Arlington, Texas at the Wade Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass the following morning at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, also in Arlington. Burial will follow the mass and will be held in Graham, Texas.
