"William Henry Turton (1849-1886) was born in Leeds, Yorkshire County, England. He and his wife Emma homesteaded the SW 6-10-1 W2 in the Glen Adelaide district. Henry passed away in the boat on Lake Superior en route to medical care in Toronto, Ontario.

Gertrude Elizabeth (Emma) Smith (1864-1928) was born at Amherstburg, Ontario. Her great-grandparents and grandparents emigrated from Ireland, England and Scotland in the early 1840s. Of a British Military background, they settled on the 1000 acre Military Reserve of Old Fort Malden, Amherstburg, Ontario. The acreage was allotted by the British Crown to Royal Canadian Regulars - servicemen who had served in the British Army for 21 years or more.

Emma and a girl companion came out to Fourth Siding (Moosomin) with baby son William Walter Turton (1882-1951) in the spring of 1883 to join her husband. A second son George Albert Oddie Turton was born in 1885."
