BARNEY ADKINS
Barney Adkins, son of Amos and Martha Adkins, was born August 29, 1878, in Rosendale, Missouri and passed away November 24, 1964 at St. John's hospital in Salina, Kansas after a short illness.
As a young man he joined the Methodist Church of Rosendale.
On July 23, 1899 he was united in marriage to Lillie Wyatt. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Surviving are Ralph Otis of Delphos, Eva Hamlin of Biggers, Arkansas and Mae Kiser of Delphos. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons. One son, Harold, died in infancy and Cecil passed away in Elko, Nevada, in December 1963. Other survivors include one granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara Davis of Delphos, and ten grandsons, Max Adkins of Topeka, David, Dan, Donald and Gary Adkins of Delphos, Dean and Ronald Adkins of Elko, Nevada, Harold Kiser of Salina, Warren Kiser of Mt. View, Oklahoma, and Corliss Kiser of Monticello, Florida. There are eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Barney was a hard working man. After he moved hi family to Kansas in the early part of the centur7y, he farmed around Delphos and Glasco. He also worked at the Delphos Mill and ran a milk route in Delphos in the 20's. He lost his eyesight almost completely several years ago but by great determination was almost completely self-sufficient to the last illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Haley Funeral Home in Minneapolis with the Rev. Charles Krueger officiating. Burial was in the Glasco cemetery. Pallbearers were Vernon, Gene, Leo, Tom and Gerald Adkins of Glasco and Joe Davis of Delphos.
