CONREY, Florence Mary Mounfield, RN, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000. She was born March 22, 1911, Emporia, Virginia to William Mounfield, of Bubwith, England and Estelle Maye Scarborough, of Wanchese, North Carolina. Mrs. Conrey graduated from Jefferson High school, where she was voted best female athlete. She graduated from Ohio State University where she was a member of the CHI OMEGA Sorority. She also attended Longwood University in Farmville, and graduated with honors from Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended the Philadelphia School of Obesterics and was a YWCA Camp Nurse for 2 summers. She also participated in ambulance training in World War II. She was a Registered Nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was past President of Barfield Terrace Garden Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Past President of South Hills Garden Club in Roanoke and vice-president and Chairman of their centennial Cook book. She was a member of Hidden Valley Country Club. Mary enjoyed sports and won numerous golf championships including Hidden Valley Senior Women's Golf Championship. Mrs. Conrey also enjoyed painting and was a member of the Roanoke League of Artists. Mrs. Conrey was pre-deceased by her husband Elden Earl Conrey, II; two sons, David Charles Conrey, and Elden Earl Conrey, III; brother, William Pratt Mounfield; sister, Maude Mounfield Grogan. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann Conrey Erickson, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandson, Jon Armstrong Erickson; three sisters, Kathryn Elizabeth Mounfield Powell, of Columbia, South Carolina, Frances Chaplin Mounfield Rakestraw, of Wanchese, North Carolina, Ann Gray Mounfield Young of Denver, Colorado; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Laura Conrey Scott, of Randalstown, Maryland.
