PHILANTHROPIST, DIES
Louisville, Dec. 23 (AP). - Mrs. Kate Spindler Avery, for many years a civic and philanthropic leaderof Kentucky one of the wealthiest women in the State, died today in Philadelphia.
News of Mrs. Avery's death was contained in a telegram to her son-in-law, Donald McDonald, Jr. Mrs. Avery was the widow of George C. Avery, former president of B. F. Avery and Sons plow manufacturers.
Mrs. Avery, who was 70 years old, had not been in robust health for the last five years, following a server illness form pneumonia in 1921. Three years ago she was thought to be near death but recovered.
Leaving Louisville July 1, Mrs. Avery went to Atlantic City for a vacation and while there became ill. She went to a Philadelphia hospital and was though to be recovering. Double pheumonia developed Thursday and she sank rapidley.
