MONTPELIER, Idaho - Lavere Orr King, 76, humble servant, son, husband, father, brother and friend, faithfully completed his assignment here on earth on Friday, December 2nd, 2011.
LaVere was born May 11,1935, to Lawrence Thomas King and Vonda Adelia Orr King, in Sharon, Idaho, where he spent his early years. It was there that he developed a great love of the outdoors, from his father and a great love of
music from his mother. On October 15,1954, he married his sweetheart, Colleen
Wixom, for time and all eternity, in the Logan, Utah LDS temple.
LaVere's life was one of total commitment to others. He exemplified this through the many acts of service in his church, whether as High Councilor, Bishop and bishopric councilor, Stake mission president, scout leader or any of the many other callings that he held throughout the years. Besides the many hours spent serving in the church, he also was extremely active in the community. He served as chief of the Montpelier fire department and was a member of the Lion's club for forty years. He was one of the original Four Wheelers, which later became the Bear Lake County Sheriff's Jeep Patrol, and is now known as the Bear Lake County Search and Rescue. He was active in many other organizations and singing groups throughout the community.
Service was always a top priority in his life. Anyone needing work done on their vehicles were sure to find the best service at his business, King's A&A Service, which he owned and operated for 38 years. Although he was busy with work, church and community service, there was always time for what matters most in his life, and that was family. He was often seen with his wife in the stands and bleachers, at events near and far, cheering on his children and grandchildren.
He served diligently in each of his responsibilities and made a difference in
people's lives where ever he went.
LaVere is survived by his wife, Colleen; children, JoAnn (Kevin) Smitheram
of Montpelier, Richard of Waitsburg, Wash., Maureen (Richard) Sorenson of N.
Logan, Utah, Beverly (Mark) Kunz of Delta, Utah, Brent (Nicholle) King of Weston,
Idaho; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters Vera, Thella, and Mabel; and
brother DeVerl. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister ldell, and 2
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Montpelier 2nd Ward chapel (585 N. 8th Street) at 12 noon. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. A viewing will be also be held Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Matthews Mortuary (702 Clay Street, Montpelier, Idaho) from 6 to 8 pm.
