Phyllis G. Birkmeier, 80, of 1024 Audubon Drive passed away at 11:57 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Pekin Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1931, in Pekin to Stanley and Dorothy (Melton) Griffin, she married Willard Birkmeier on May 7, 1950, in Pekin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Willard; and their dear son, Christopher.

A former legal secretary, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Stephen Ministry, the United Methodist Women and the Naomi-Rachel Circle.

Phyllis was a member of the Tazewell County Democratic Women's Club, Job's Daughters Bethel Chapter No. 55 and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Victoria Chapter No. 83. Formerly, she had served as president of the Pekin Hospital League and the Douglas School PTA. She served on the board of directors of Pekin Hospital and the Pekin Hospital Foundation. She had also been involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H leadership.

Phyllis was involved in fundraising for the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the first two Memory Walks for the Alzheimer's Association.
