She was born and grew up in Durham, and was educated in the Durham City schools. After education Sarah moved to Atlanta, where she attended stewardess school at Eastern Airlines. While there she met and married Curtis L. Ivey, a pilot for Piedmont Airlines.
She and Curtis were stationed in various cities during their marriage. Later Sarah moved to Myrtle Beach, SC where she lived for eight years before returning to Durham. She was employed at Duke Medical Center until retirement.
Sarah is survived by her brother, Charles Andrews and wife, Barbara; an aunt; and a number of cousins. She is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Ruth Stone.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev'd Martha McLean officiating.
