United States Army Officer. Born c.1751 near Toulons, France, Dr. Vacher (a.k.a. Vachier) came to America at the request of the Marquis de Lafayette to serve as a surgeon in the Continental Army. Commissioned a colonel in the 4th New York Regiment in February 1777, he was one of the original members of the Cincinnati Society, a patriotic organization of officers who served with George Washington. A close friend of Baron Von Steuben, he later became a United States citizen and practiced medicine in New York City, where he resided in Fulton Street with his wife, the former Sarah Potter of Madison, New Jersey, and their four children: John Francis, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Fanny. He was in his 56th year at the time of his death.
