Rites For W.L. Ford At Guthrie Tuesday
W.L. Ford, formerly of this place and a resident of Oklahoma since the opening of the Cherokee Strip in 1893, died at Guthrie Sunday. He was 78 years, 5 months and 29 days of age and had been seriously ill for several months.
Mr. Ford and his family came to Carnegie in 1912. He farmed two miles north of town and later lived here until they moved to near Guthrie in 1934.
Walter L. Ford was born in Ohio August 1, 1857. When a small child he moved to St. Patrick, Mo. where he lived until he came to Oklahoma at the opening of the Strip, homesteading five miles northwest of Perry. After leaving Carnegie two years ago the family lived near Coyle until August when he moved to Guthrie where he lived until his death.
Besides his widow, he is survived by 12 children, four grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers. The children are Sister Estella Mary Ford, Nebraska City, Nebr.; Walter Ford, Carnegie; John Ford, Victoria, Texas; Mrs. Loutie Mae Bush, Guthrie; Mrs. Ella Lemmon and Anna Ford, Oklahoma City; Charles Ford, Guthrie; and James, Matt, Thressa, George and Henry Ford, Coyle. All were present for the funeral except Sister Estella and John.
His brothers, James and Eugene Ford live at Shade Hill, S.D. The sisters are: Mrs. Florence Timmer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Ella Spurgeon, Kansas City; Mary Kinnedy, Kahoka, Mo., and Mrs. Lizzie East, Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held at the Davis chapel in Guthrie Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Walter C. McCroy and interment was made in the Summit View cemetery. Mr. Ford was a member of the Catholic church, his membership dating from the time he was a small child.
