He was born July 10, 1937, in Camuy, Puerto Rico.
Jose was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as a truck driver from Exxon Oil Co., and moved to Florida in 1996 from Syracuse, N.Y. Jose was working for the Lee County school system as a bus driver, and he was of the Catholic faith.
Jose is survived by his wife, Maria M. Pagan of Lehigh Acres; four daughters, Maria Acevedo of St. Petersburg, Fla., Evelyn Torres of Englewood, Fla., Diana Butler of Syracuse, and Joanne Acevedo of Maryland; three sons, Jose L. Acevedo Jr. of Port Charlotte, Jose A. Acevedo of North Port, Fla., and Jose M. Acevedo of Lehigh Acres; four brothers; and five sisters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Port Charlotte chapel of Roberson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, at the funeral home, followed by interment and military honors by the U.S. Army at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
