Richard McCarter, age 68, went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2011 and died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Richard was a highly decorated US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the loving and devoted husband of Ruth Ann McCarter; adoring grandfather to Madison Griffeth of Greenback; cherished father of Kelly McCarter of Greenback and Melissa McCarter and husband Greg Bevins of Kodak. Other survivors include: siblings, Alvin, Everett, Garfield, Charles, Ruby Brookshire, and Linda Cook; and best friends, Greg Ryan and Eugene Akins. Special thanks to primary care physician, Dr. Bryan Thompson; Dr. Stephen Miller and Dr. Timothy Panella and their staff at University Cancer Specialists, as well as the wonderful staff of the Medical Critical Care unit at UT Medical Center for all of your kind and compassionate care during Richard's illness. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Monday, December 5, 2011 at Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel, with Rev. Scotty Huffstetler officiating. Interment service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Morganton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at Miller Funeral home, Maryville.
