Mary Emma Curtis

Mary Emma, daughter and only survivor of Captain James Cromwell Steel and Sarah Rouen Ford, was born in Floyd county, Indiana, July 26, 1851. She passed away at Exeter, Neb., May 2, 1947, at the age of95 years, 9 months and 6 days.
October 31, 1878, she was united in marriage to Fletcher W. Curtis, Civil war veteran, who preceded his wife in death in February, 1912.
She united with the Methodist church when a young girl, and while she has not been a regular attendant of church at Exeter on account of her advanced age, she was a listener to divine services over the radio.
Her early married life was spent at Arcola, Ill., where their two children were reared. She had lived in Exeter the past eight years.
She is survived by her two children, a son, Paul S. Curtis, and wife of San Benito, Tex., and her daughter, Mrs. S. E. Kinkade, and husband of Exeter.
Funeral services were conducted at the Farmer Funeral Home at Exeter, Sunday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. L. A. Fishel of the Methodist church in charge of the services.
Interment was at Arcola, Ill., beside her husband.
