Blaine Leonard Braaten, age 91, of Austin, Minnesota died Sunday morning, December 4, 2011, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

He was born October 21, 1920 in Owatonna, Minnesota to Carl and Marie Braaten. Blaine attended country school near Corning, Minnesota. On January 25, 1941, Blaine married Doris Davidson in Northwood, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army, serving in Europe in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Bronze Star. After his discharge from the Army, Blaine returned to Austin and went to work for the Hormel Company in the hog cut. He retired in 1979. His hobbies included rebuilding wrecked cars and reselling them during retirement; CB's and ham radio; woodworking and furniture building. He also repaired TV's and installed antennas while working at Hormel. Blaine moved to St. Mark's on November 30, 2011.

Survivors include his children, Doug (Linda) Braaten of Austin, Terry (Ginger) Braaten of Tempe, Arizona, Mike Braaten of Austin, Michelle "Micky" Braaten of Mesa, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marie; his wife Doris; son Bruce Braaten; great grandson Colton Biwer; two brothers Les and Dale Braaten; two sisters Cora Sill and Mamie Dunlop.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 9, 2011 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Glenn Monson officiating. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 91 and the VFW Post 1216. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation.
