On the 1880 South River, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found widow Eunie Donald, 40; sons or daughters: Charles, 20; William F, 18; Warren L, 16; Lulu, 13; SIdney G, 11; ALLIE M, 9; Joseph M D, 6 and Luther A, 4, all Virginia, born.


John William McCluer, age 37, born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, to parents Wm P and Nancy J McCluer, married Allie Moore Donald, age 23, born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, the daughter of Alexr J and Martha E Donald in 1894, Rockbridge Co., Virginia (FS).


On the 1900 South River, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer John W McCluer, 43, born Aug 1857; wife of 5 years ALLIE M McCluer, 24, Jan 1876; son William A McCluer, 4, Jun 1896 and daughter Margaret McCluer, 2, May 1898, all Virginia born. They resided next to Mattie S McCluer, 39 and 2 sisters, Rachel and Emma.


On 29 Sep 1907, Walton M McCluer was born in Virginia to parents John Wm McClure and Aileen Donald. He was the spouse of Mary. On 16 Mar 1964, he died in Trenton, Wayne Co., MI. He was buried in Affton, St. Louis, MO. His obits read: Walton (Mac) McCluer. 3315 Elizabeth, Trenton, died 16 Mar in Seaway Hospital. Born Sept 20, 1907, in Fairfield, Virginia. he is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Mrs. John (Katherine) Brown of Clawson, and Barbara McCleur (sic), of Trenton; a son, John W., of Big Bear, CA; a sister, Mrs. Eleanor B Borthwick, of Lexington, Virginia, and 5 grandchildren. Serviced were held March 19 in the 1st Presbyterian Church, Trenton. Crematiom was in Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit. 4/1/64 unlisted paper.

"Mrs. John W. McClure Died suddenly at Fairfield. Reported for tbe County News. Oct. 9.—The sudden death of Mrs. Allie Moore, wife of Mr. John W. McClure, "Friday morning at 2 o'clock, cast a gloom over a large circle of relatives and friends. She was found by Mr. McClure after life had been extinct possibly two or three hours. The doctor was at once summoned, who pronounced her death due to neuralgia of the heart. Mrs. McClure, who before marriage was Miss Allie Donald, was bom near Fairfield. She was the daughter of the late Mark and M. E. Donald, and was in the 36th year of her age. She was a devoted church woman, being a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian church for many years, and leaves; many devoted friends to mourn her death. She was possessed of a most amiable and lovable disposition. She is survived by a husband and five children, the youngest being but three weeks old, and four brothers: Messrs. S. G. and J. M. Donald of Asheville, N. C., William of Brookshire. Tex., and Warren of California. The funeral was preached Sunday morning at 11 o'clock from the house by her pastor, Rev. J. Spencer Smith, assisted by Rev. J. L .Henderson. The interment was in the Fairfield cemetery." Published in the Rockbridge County News (Virginia), Vol 23, #9, dated 10 Oct 1907 (see photo).
