Arleen C. Hallett, 91, passed away Friday morning at Birchwood Nursing Home. Arleen was a native of New Haven, CT, where she graduated in the class of 1939 from Commercial High. She resided on Waterbury Drive in North Syracuse for the past 61 years and was the last surviving child of four born to Francis and Ella (Melsbach) McCarthy. Arleen was a veteran of World War II, where she served with the Women's Army Corps stationed in Eagle Pass and Laredo, TX, as an air traffic controller. She loved to volunteer in many agencies throughout the Syracuse area, including NAVAC, Francis House and Birchwood. Arleen was the past president of the St. Rose of Lima Altar Rosary Society and the past prefect of the 3rd order of St. Francis. She was an incredible seamstress and crocheted. Many of the items she made were donated to charity. In addition to her parents, Arleen was predeceased by her son, Robert Joseph Hallett, in 2009; her two brothers, Francis and William; and a sister, Florence. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Robert J. Hallett; their five children, Kathleen Hallett of North Syracuse, John (Lynn) Hallett of Middlesex, NY, Margaret Anne Hallett of Syracuse, Greg (Elaine) Hallett of Syracuse and Patty Hallett of Boston, MA; her grandson, Avery Hallett of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. The Hallett family is grateful for the exceptional care and kindness provided by the Birchwood staff. Friends may call Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, followed by an 11:30 a.m. prayer service. Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m. in St. Daniel's Church, Syracuse. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions in Arleen's memory may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
