Born in 1929 on a farm in the Pine Springs community of Lauderdale Co., Mississippi, he was the son of Barney D. and Margaret Thresia Clay Pace. He graduated from high school in Vidor, Texas. On July 16, 1954, he married Mary Ann Sevier in the chapel at Cabiness Field, Texas. They were married for 57 years before her death on August 20, 2011.
He later remarried Nell "Minnie" Pace who survives along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
