James M. Andrews was born in Franklin, Warren Co., New Jersey, on the 13th of December, 1823. He resided there until the year 1846. James was apprenticed to the black smithing and machine work at the age of 20 serving for 3 years and then returned to his old employer and worked as a journeyman for 2 more years before emigrating to Ohio with his father and family in 1846. They located Clinton Twp., Knox County where James remained til his death which occurred on the 13th day of October, 1906, aged 78 years. From 1847 to 1853 Mr. Andrews was principally engaged in farming, working upon his father's farm and in 1853 moved to Mt.Vernon and began working in the grocery business.
