ROCKY POINT -- Mrs. Johnnie Lewis Petrea, age 96, of the Long Creek Community, Rocky Point, died Thursday December 1, 2011 at home.

She was born October 11, 1915 in Pender County, daughter of the late John and Annie Charles Lewis. She was also predeceased by her husband James Petrea in 1987.

Mrs. Petrea was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte. She was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, and a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. She retired in 1980 from Pender Memorial Hospital after a long career as a registered nurse.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice P. Young of Virginia Beach VA. and dawn M.Hochberg and husband Bob Tacha of Norfolk VA; a son, Thomas Petrea of Rocky Point; four grandchildren, Kimberlie Young, Kellie Evans and husband Laymon, Jill Young, Jamie Young; and four great grandchildren, Willow, Chloe, Reese, and Luke.

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm Monday December 5, 2011 at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Burgaw. Reverend Father John Alex Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will be at 3:00 pm at Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington.

A rosary will be at 5:00 pm Sunday at Harrell's Funeral Home.
