I found new information about John L. Hoskins (my grgrgr grandfather) in, of all places, a widows pension application on Fold3.com. She was Elizabeth (Reed) Robinson, widow of George W. Robinson, who died during the Civil War. There are over 250 pages of affidavits from various family, friends and doctors, that knew Elizabeth and John L. Hoskins. In these documents I found that John died March 28, 1885 of consumption in Dade county, MO. His first wife Martha (Hadden) Hoskins died in Marion co., IL, 1862/63, they had five children: Sarah Hoskins, Mary Evaline (Hoskins) Simons (my grgr grandmother), William Thomas Hoskins, Frances "Fanny" Clementine(Hoskins) Johnson, and John L. Hoskins, Jr. He then married Mrs. Martha Almeda "Meda" (Couch) Allmon, they divorced in 1867 in Marion county. They didn't have any children together but Meda had a daughter, Dora Allmon, from previous marriage. John then moved to Missouri, living in Vernon county, Miller county and eventually Dade county. While in Miller county he married Elizabeth (Reed) Robinson, June 21, 1868. They had one child, Emma Hoskins, she married and moved to Castle, OK, and was still living in 1908. In 1869, John married Lucinda (Fanning) Fanning, widow of Jacob "Jake" Fanning, her cousin. John and Lucinda had 3 children: Cyrus Skidmore Hoskins, Vernetta "Netty" P. (Hoskins) Stanley, and Nellie L. (Hoskins) Smith. It has been assumed that Harrison Lovell Hoskins and Frances "Fanny" (Kain) Hoskins were his parents, but they were not. John's parents were Thomas Hoskins and Elizabeth (Lovell)(Hoskins) Shelton, his siblings were Eliza Jane (Hoskins) Van Deusen, Mary A.(Hoskins) Robertson, Sarah (Hoskins)(Robertson) Sievert, Susan Elizabeth (Hoskins) Keeth, George Washington Hoskins, and Serilda A. (Hoskins) Whittle.
