In the 1850, 1860, and 1870 U.S. Censuses, Sarah was living in Washington, DC, with the family of her daughter, Mary Ann (Hunter) Galt.

"March 19 inst. At 10:30 p.m., Mrs. Sarah Hunter, widow of the late Thomas Hunter in the 75th year of his age. The funeral will take place from the residence of her son-in-law, Thomas J. Galt, 464 Louisiana ave. on Friday afternoon at 2 1/2 o'clock. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend (Morning papers please copy)."
