Wanda Maxine Alge

Wanda Maxine Alge, 97, formerly of Arlington and currently of Findlay, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Fox Run Manor.

Wanda was born on December 9, 1913, to the late James and Ethel (Winner) Wilch, in Arlington. Wanda married W. Sherman Alge on June 24, 1942 and he preceded her in death on August 24, 1979.

Wanda is survived by a son, William S. (Karen) Alge of Findlay; sister, Madonna Bishop of Vandalia, OH; granddaughters: Shani Hursh and Alex Alge; one great-granddaughter, Laine Hursh; one niece, Victoria (John) Ciprian; and three nephews: Michael Bishop, Lynn A. Bishop, and Tom Bishop. Wanda was also preceded in death by brothers: Roe and Miles Wilch.

Wanda was a life member of the Arlington United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, and worked with various committees. She was active in the community and took great pride in her hometown. She was always busy during the days of the Arlington Homecoming and helping with school functions. During high school and beyond, Wanda worked at Laverne Morrison's Pharmacy and wallpaper store on the main square in Arlington, near where her family operated the town restaurant. Wanda also served as a board member of the former Farmers & Merchants Bank Co., where Sherm worked for over 53 years. She worked in retail sales of ladies apparel at Simon's Dress Shop & Britt's and Gairs, where she made many friends. She loved people and her desire was for friendship and happiness.

She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved to cook and made lots of baked goods for friends. She never met a stranger, and she made many good friends working where she had a keen eye for fashion. She always supported her community and her family and friends. She was also quick to send a card to remember a birthday or note of concern to those in need of comfort or encouragement.

Visitation will be from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington.
