Gwen was unlucky in love and unhappy for much of her life. By age 4 her father had already disappeared and by the late-1920's her mother had left her and her sister to be raised by their aunt and uncle in Covina, California.
Gwen was married four times and divorced three and had three children. Her son and older daughter were with her in the hospital when at age 69 she succumbed to emphysema, brought on by a lifetime of smoking unfiltered Camels.
In addition to being a beautician and cosmetologist, Gwen worked crossword puzzles, and even wrote some and submitted them for publication.
