VETERAN - CIVIL WAR - 72ND

Dr George W Kirkpatrick, aged 86 years, one of the pioneer physicians of Tippecanoe county, died at 11:20 o’clock Wednesday night at the family home, 1405 South street, of heart trouble. Dr Kirkpatrick was born May 21, 1835, in this county and was the only surviving child of ten born to George W and Katherine Ported Kirkpatrick. He served as assistant sturgeon in the Seventy-second Indiana Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War , and following the close of the war returned to Cran station in Sheffield township, his former home. He was married there on September 6, 1866, to Lovena E. DeHart, daughter of Abner and Margaret Trotter DeHart children were born to this union, two sons and two daughters. The mother and daughters have been dead for several years. James N Kirkpatrick, of this city, and Milo D. Kirkpatrick, of Crane Station, are the surviving sons. The deceased practiced medicine at Cran Station for many years, but retired fifteen years ago and came to Lafayette. He had a wide acquaintance throughout the county and was honored and respected by all who knew him. The funeral services will be conducted from the residence, 1405 South street, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment Wildcat cemetery.(Journal and Courier, Thursday, September 22, 1921)
