Ruby C. Baxter was born Nov. 11, 1909, in Columbus, Miss., and passed away on Nov. 17, 2003, at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana, Texas.

She married Russell Baxter in 1929. He preceded her in death in 1958 and they lived in Kerens, Texas, since 1936. During her child-rearing years, she was active in all the children's school activities while at the same time becoming an accomplished seamstress which allowed her to sew for her family as well as sewing for the public. She has been a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and has been a loyal servant for the Lord working with youth groups, women's organizations, Sunday school programs and on the board.

Her work career included her profession as a seamstress as well as a newspaper distributor in the Kerens area for 35 years. She received the Outstanding Service Award from the Kerens Chamber of Commerce and served as grand marshal for the homecoming parade.

Even with all of her other activities, Ruby C. always made time for her family including a celebration of Easter which included an Easter egg hunt for the children and special gift eggs for the grandchildren.

After retirement, she was active in the Garden Club serving in various capacities including president.

Survivors include her son, Joe B. Baxter and wife Evelyn of Kerens; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Baxter, wife of James R. Baxter (deceased), of Kerens; daughter, Evadne Salzar and husband Jerry of Grand Prairie; son, M. Richard Baxter and wife Frances of Dallas; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Paschal Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Kerens. Interment will follow at Kerens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
