Hugh passed away on November 29, 2011 from complications while recovering from surgery. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Hugh was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had and has a testimony of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. He served an LDS mission to Eastern Canada.
Hugh was involved with scouting and served as a ward clerk. Hugh was Branch President of the Holladay Healthcare branch. Hugh and Janet served as couple missionaries in the Nibley Park Ward, and they were currently mentoring in a special LDS branch.
Hugh was a graduate of East High School, where he was captain of the ski team. He also graduated from the University of Utah, where he was in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
After his mission, Hugh married his high school sweetheart, Janet Lee Christensen, in the Salt Lake Temple on May 6, 1953.
Hugh was a successful entrepreneur, the owner of Cummings Cars, Cummings Christmas Trees, apartment buildings, and for a while a distributor of Vernors soft drinks. He was self-motivated and a hard worker. Even at age eighty, he never retired.
He taught by example how to be more kind. He befriended many people and quietly provided employment, housing, and other opportunities.

Preceded in death by his mother, father, and son, Cory Michael Cummings. Survived by his wife, Janet Lee Christensen Cummings; children, Christopher Hugh (Helen), Kim Lynden, and KaraLee Michelle (Greg) Goates; grandchildren, Anthony (Brooke), James (Heather), Rachael (Justin) McAllister, Laura Cummings, and Morgan, Cameron, Preston, and Amber Goates; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Cory Cummings; and siblings, Rulon (Jeannine), Todd (Colleen), and Karen (Doug) Nielsen.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral will take place on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 12:00 p.m., with a viewing from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., in the Holladay Fourth Ward Building, 4917 South Viewmont Street (approximately 2390 East), Holladay, Utah.
