William Boyd Laid to Rest
William J. Boyd, member of a pioneer Marin County family, who had been postmaster of Sausalito for the past 10 years, died Friday morning at the Cottage Hospital in San Rafael after an illness of 3 weeks.
Prior to his appointment as Postmaster by the late President Warren G. Harding, Boyd was for many years the publisher of the Sausalito News and was closely identified with the upbuilding of that community.
Born 64 years ago in San Rafael, Boyd was station agent at San Geronimo and at San Quentin for the old North Shore Road. He was a member of San Rafael Lodge, B.P.O.E.; Sea Point Parlor, N.S.G.W.; Court Marin, F. of A.; Order of Railroad Telegraphers, California Press Association, San Francisco Press Club, Postmaster's Association, and the Sausalito Lions Club.
His sister, Estelle Boyd, of San Rafael, died a month ago. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Dolores M. Boyd; a brother, Thomas P. Boyd, San Rafael attorney, and a sister, Miss Mary E. Boyd, principal of the B Street School, San Rafael.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Raphael's Church in San Rafael and were attended by hundreds of friends. Members of the Sausalito Lions Club attended in a body and other organizations of which he was a member were officially represented at the services.
