George Grosvenor Peabody was the son of David and Mary Ann (Grosvernor) Peabody. His sister Mary Ann Grosvenor Peabody Fitch is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit. George's paternal grandparents Paul Tenney and Eleanor (Thompson) Peabody were the first settlers of Albion, Michigan. His maternal grandparents were M/M Ebenezer Oliver Grosvernor, Sr., also pioneers of the area. George's mother died when he was a baby in 1854, and so he was raised by her sister Caroline Grosvenor Hovey. Upon reaching adulthood, George moved to Jonesville, Michigan where he married Ellen B. Baxter (1858-1915). The couple had two sons, Horace B. Peabody (1879-1944) and Witter J. Peabody (1881-1938). They lived in Detroit. George moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked as a soliciter for an installment firm. He died there in 1902 and his remains were returned to Albion for burial next to his mother. His grave is unmarked today.
