Clara Alice Roberts
Clara Alice Badham, daughter of Amazon and Melvina Peck Badham, was born Feb. 8, 1879, at Henderson, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood.

For two years she taught school near Henderson. On Dec. 25, 1898, she was married to Joseph Roberts, who was then a teacher near Thurman, Iowa. For seven years she and her companion lived near Tabor, Iowa, on a farm.

In 1907 they moved to Lamoni, where she has had her residence ever since, until leaving this life on Feb. 6 in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 26 days. For the past three months, she has been cared for at the home of a daughter, Mrs. David Blair, in Creston. Her companion, Joseph Roberts, passed away July 16, 1916, and one son, Byron Joseph, died March 12, 1935.

Surviving are one son, Forest Roberts, of Marquette, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. David Blair of Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Christine Hausheer of Osceola, Iowa; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Roberts, Lamoni, and Mrs. Forest Roberts, Marquette, Mich; one son-in-law, David A. Blair of Creston, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Grace Garnet, Cameron, Mo.

Surviving also are grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Allyn Roberts, East Lansing, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. James Osborn of Columbus, Ohio; Kay Roberts of Berkeley, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Alma Blair, Lamoni; David E. Blair, Ames, Iowa; Dr. and Mrs. Herman Hausheer of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; Maurice Hausheer, Laramie, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Rene Hausheer, Iowa City, Iowa. There are also eight great-grandchildren: Diane, Katharyn, and David Blair; Caton Forest and Cheralyn Roberts; Noel Osborn, and Brian and Fredrick Hausheer.

At an early age, Clara was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the Farm Creek branch near Henderson by Dan Hougas. All of her life the importance of the work of the church has been uppermost in her mind. When her husband served as pastor of the Tabor congregation, then as counselor to Bishop William Anderson and from 1909 to 1916 as bishop of Lamoni Stake, she never let anything stand in the way of his doing the work necessary in his ministry.

Others always came first in her life. Everything she could do to help others to a larger service she did. Quick of mind, sweet and charitable of spirit, frugal, industrious, and selfless, she was always a reliable counselor and understanding friend to many people. Her life was filled with the doing of important little things for her family and others round about her. All who knew her will revere her for her unassuming but rich and helpful life among us.
