Eloise was the second child of Charles Ernest Elliott, Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Herron. She had 3 brothers. She married Duane J. Smith (son of Clare Smith and Maude Trump) on July 6, 1935 in Albion, Indiana. They had 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Eloise was widowed on September 23, 1951. Her eldest son preceded her in death at age 4 1/2. Her daughter preceded her in death in 1992. Eloise worked at Goshen General Hospital in Housekeeping and at Fountainview Nursing Home in Elkhart. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Marks Methodist Church. She also volunteered for many years with the Red Cross. Eloise is buried in Elkhart County Indiana along with many others of her relatives.
