Tribute to Fallen Soldier of Peters
Corporal Lester L. Weylandt Who Fell in Action, Was to Have Married

The Record has been asked to publish the following tribute to Corporal Lester L. Weylandt of Peters, San Joaquin County, who was killed in action in France, as stated in this paper several days ago.

Corporal Lester L. Weylandt, who has fallen in France, was a native of California. He was a young man of sterling character, kind, generous and courteous to all. The family are bowed in sorrow in the bereavement of their beloved son and brother, who was instantly killed in action on September 29th. They have the deep sympathy of the whole community. Corporal Weylandt was 21 years old. He was born in Pasadena, November 28, 1895, where he lived with his parents until he was 8 years old. He had resided in Peters for the last ten years.

Corporal Weylandt was a member of Company K, 363d Infantry. He left Stockton September 19, 1917, for Camp Lewis, where he trained for nine months. He was one of those chosen who toured through Canada last June before going to France.

He has left to mourn him, besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Weylandt, two brothers, Lawrence and Alan, and three sisters, Esther Margaret, Mrs. H.L. Holst of Stockton and Mrs. L.G. Scheffel of Peters; also his fiancee, Miss Amalia V. Scheffel of Peters, whom he was to claim for his bride when he returned.

He leaves a host of friends, who grieve for the young soldier who sleeps far from his native land.
