Son of Jacob Flowers & Lydia Martin
John was a 19 Century Planter of Cotton on a 2,850 Plantation in the Cairo Section of SE Anson Co North Carolina. To Farm this Plantation he is reported to have owned 38 Slaves. Flowers Doubled his Plantation production of Cotton and of the 250 acres he actually farmed he increased the actual farmed acres to 500 acres as production doubled, the number of bales of ginned cotton rose from twenty-one to thirty-five and the value of the farm rose from $8,500.00 to $14,000.00.
He married Sarah Ratlliff the daughter of Thomas Ratliff his neighboring Plantation Owner. After his wife's death John Flowers lived to 94 years of age after he witnessed the destruction of much of his plantation during a raid by Kilpatrick's Cavalry (a part of General William T. Sherman's army) in early March, 1865.
