Orell M. "Relly" Baker, 90, of Filer, Idaho, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Orell was born in Grand Forks, N.D., at the home of her parents, Adolph and Annie (Hausauer) Purpur, on Jan. 18, 1921. She was the fourth child in a large, loving family which included seven children. She was educated in the Grand Forks area. On her 16th birthday, she met her sole mate, Ray G. Baker, at a dance. He told a friend, "That's the girl I'm going to marry." They courted through letters and frequent visits until six months later, when they eloped and were married on July 5, 1937, in East Grand Forks, Minn. They spent almost 55 years together as best friends in an ideal marriage. This union was blessed with four children. She lost her loving life partner, Ray, in 1992.

While going to high school, she worked at F.W. Woolworth and even got a 10-cent tip once. Besides raising her children, she worked as a customer service representative at Buttrey's Food and Drug Store in Twin Falls and alongside her husband in the school systems in Glendive, Mont., and Filer, Idaho. Besides family and friends, she loved bowling, movies (especially the American romantic comedy, "French Kiss"), dancing, music, playing her piano and going to Jackpot, Nev., for entertainment. When Ray retired, they purchased a travel trailer and took off for Mesa, Ariz. They truly loved the eight winters there.

She was the family caregiver, was extremely proud of her four children, and loved her extended family and friends dearly, as they did her. When she got the call that her brother, Ray, needed assistance, she took over his care. She spent the last 13 years of her life living half the year (winter time) in North Dakota with him even though she had always vowed she would never return to North Dakota in the winter. In the spring, she packed them both up and returned to her home in Idaho where, she has resided for the last 39 years. On Nov. 11, 2011, she must have gotten a call from heaven that somebody needed her care, and she left us.

She is survived by her sons, James (Wanda) Baker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ray (Sandi) Baker of Emmett, Idaho; daughters, Lorel (Lou) Gonzales of Gooding, Idaho, and Karen (Tom) Andreason of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Raymond Purpur of Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Delores (Emil) Panzer of Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Darlyne Purpur (Mrs. Kenneth) of Rapid City, S.D.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents; brothers, Albert Purpur, Clifford "Fido" Purpur Sr. and Kenneth Purpur; and a sister, Lorraine Dokken.

The funeral was held in Grand Forks, N.D., where she was buried next to her husband on Nov. 15, 2011.
