ABINGDON, Va. – Bonnie Virginia Bright Counts, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Counts taught school in Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell counties for 33 years. She went to college at the age of 37 and received her Bachelor of Science from Emory & Henry College and her MED from U.Va.
Mrs. Counts was preceded in death by her husband, Carmack Counts; a grandson, Lucas Brummitt; her parents, John and Sally Bright; and four brothers, Tom, Denby, Harold and Jess Bright.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Arrington, Bristol Virginia, Glenda Sykes, Lebanon, Va., Ginger Kinkead, Bristol Tennessee, and Patricia Brummitt, Columbia, S.C.; a son-in-law, David Kinkead; 11 grandchildren, Jeff and John Dax Arrington, Laura Sykes McCall, Clint, Shannon and Sally Sykes, Jennifer, Chris and Jason Kinkead, and Mark and Major Steven Brummitt; five great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Margaret, Maggie, Dorothy and Carol Bright; and Mrs. Counts' special friends and neighbors, Willard and Nancy Kestner.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with Trey McCall, her grandson-in-law, and the Rev. Jim Fuller officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, in the Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, with a graveside service. Those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
