DEATH COMES TO PIONEER
AS HE RESTS IN SLEEP

Ernest Schroeder, pioneer settler of Manitowoc and early day wagon maker, passed away at the home of his son, Hugo Schroeder, 926 South 12th street last evening, the end being calm and peaceful while Mr. Schroeer was resting, his slumber merging into death sleep with no preceptible indication of the passing of life.

Mrs. Schroeder, who was the father of ex-Alderman William Schroeder, was a native of Germany and had reached the advanced age of 83 years, having been born April 11, 1837.

He came to America in 1846, locating in this section where he has made his home for nearly sixty years. For years Mr. Schroeder was engaged in the wagon manufacturing business with F. Leverenz on Franklin street until advancing age forced him to retire.

With the death of his wife, Mr. Schroeder's health began to fail and his grief, coupled with his years, sent him into decline that ended in death yesterday.

He is survived by five children all residents of this city, William, Emil, Mrs. Ida Handl, Chas and Hugo. Sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon.
